Purpose and Methodology
Environmental impact estimates have been calculated using the Environmental Paper Network Paper Calculator, Version 4.1. For more information, please visit www.papercalculator.org .
The results represent the environmental impacts associated with the amount of paper assumed to have been used to print documents in the absence of InfoCert Sign. The outputs generated by the Paper Calculator are converted and scaled based on the assumptions outlined below.
Key Assumptions
The calculation is based on the following assumptions:
- 3 A4 sheets per transaction;
- Uncoated freesheet paper;
- 0% recycled content;
- Estimated weight of approximately 4.99 g per A4 sheet;
- Number of transactions based on InfoCert's internal data for the reporting period.
Indicators Displayed in the Interface
The indicators displayed in the interface provide estimates related to the amount of paper potentially avoided and include:
- A4 Sheets Potentially Avoided: Estimated number of sheets that would have been used in the absence of the digital service, based on the assumption of 3 sheets per transaction.
- Equivalent Trees: An illustrative representation of the amount of wood associated with the production of the estimated quantity of paper. The value is derived from the equivalence provided by the Paper Calculator.
- Equivalent Refrigerators per Year: An illustrative representation of the energy consumption associated with the life cycle of the estimated quantity of paper. This equivalence indicates how many residential refrigerators operating for one year would consume an equivalent amount of energy, based on the value estimated by the Paper Calculator.
- Water Consumption: Estimated amount of water consumed or degraded throughout the life cycle of the paper considered, expressed in litres.
- Solid Waste: Estimated amount of solid waste associated with the production and end-of-life disposal of the paper considered, expressed in kilograms (kg).
- Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Estimated emissions associated with the life cycle of the paper considered, expressed in kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent (kg CO₂e). The Paper Calculator category includes the relevant emissions covered by its methodology and does not represent the net emissions avoided through the use of InfoCert Sign.
Scope and Limitations
The estimates refer exclusively to the environmental impacts associated with the paper potentially avoided and do not represent the overall net environmental impact of InfoCert Sign.
For example, they do not include the environmental impacts associated with digital infrastructure, devices, data transmission or data storage.
The Paper Calculator methodology relies primarily on data representative of the North American paper industry. Therefore, the results should be interpreted as proxy estimates rather than as a service-specific environmental footprint.
Minor discrepancies compared with simulations performed directly using the Paper Calculator may result from the rounding of displayed values and the conversions applied in the calculation file.
Use of Results
The results are provided for informational and illustrative purposes only.
Any use of these results for ESG reporting, sustainability disclosures or other external communications requires prior verification of their methodological suitability in relation to the specific scope and intended purpose of use.
